Friends –
I am sorry to report that dojo practices are suspended until further notice. The COVID-19 crisis is the primary reason. We just can’t increase risks by gathering, as we do, for normal practice.
I am going to work with Brigette on creating more training videos for those that wish to view them. Senior members probably have their training regimens in place already. I may also have virtual classes, circa the same time that we normally train. More on this later.
For now, my recommendation is that you practice your katas daily. Do your basics, and practice 1x and 3x without an opponent. Train as often as your schedule permits. Augment your training with bag work, judicious outdoor exercise, such as running, fast walking, bicycling — all while keeping your distance from others. Try to behave as if you have COVID-19, and you are determined not to infect others.
Also, ST has been cancelled for not. Unclear if it will be reset. We will probably hear more about dan testing, but I suspect that will also be at least delayed, if not cancelled for this year altogether.
Be safe and stay healthy. For those of you involved in contact with others because you are essential workers, take good care. I will probably return to my own patient care in the next couple of weeks and will take precautions. In my profession, we can do some treatment over the internet via secured sites, but my evaluations necessitate closer, in person contact.
I will be in touch soon. Please contact me or other seniors with questions about your regular practice, if you need. We are here to provide guidance.
